Senior Accountant

A Quebec-based company experiencing strong growth, Prolon operates in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Despite its international presence, the company remains deeply connected to its Quebec roots and prioritizes working with local suppliers.
Reporting directly to the Vice-President, Finance, the successful candidate will play a central role in the company’s financial and administrative management. This person will be responsible for day-to-day accounting activities, payroll, and various administrative matters, while actively contributing to the improvement of internal processes.
This position is ideal for an experienced, bilingual, versatile professional who is motivated by taking full ownership of the company’s accounting operations.
Your Main Responsibilities
Accounting and Financial Management
- Manage the company’s full accounting cycle;
- Perform bookkeeping and ensure the accuracy of accounting transactions;
- Prepare and record journal entries;
- Perform bank reconciliations and monitor various accounts;
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable;
- Prepare supplier payments and complete required follow-ups;
- Handle customer invoicing and follow up on outstanding receivables;
- Actively participate in the collection of overdue accounts;
- Prepare monthly financial reports and various management reports;
- Participate in the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements;
- Monitor cash flow and contribute to cash flow planning;
- Prepare government remittances, including sales taxes, payroll deductions, and other applicable obligations;
- Work with external accountants in preparing year-end files;
- Provide required documentation and information during audits or external requests;
- Participate in the preparation and monitoring of budgets;
- Analyze budget variances and identify items requiring particular attention;
- Ensure compliance with internal controls;
- Recommend and implement improvements to accounting processes;
- Prepare various financial reports and analyses as requested by management.
Payroll Administration
- Prepare and process employee payroll according to the established biweekly schedule;
- Review timesheets, overtime, vacation, and absences;
- Make required payroll adjustments;
- Monitor vacation banks, leaves, and applicable benefits;
- Prepare and submit payroll-related remittances;
- Prepare Records of Employment, tax slips, Relevé 1 summaries, and other required annual documents;
- Prepare the information required for reporting under Quebec’s “1% Training Law”;
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee administrative records;
- Participate in the administration of group insurance benefits;
- Respond to routine employee questions regarding payroll and benefits;
- Ensure the confidentiality of personal, financial, and salary information.
Administrative Support
- Follow up on various company administrative matters;
- Prepare, review, and format documents, reports, and tracking spreadsheets;
- Maintain an efficient filing system for accounting and administrative documents;
- Monitor contracts, insurance policies, permits, and other corporate documents;
- Communicate with suppliers, financial institutions, and external partners;
- Support management in preparing documents and following up on specific files;
- Participate in improving work methods and optimizing administrative tools;
- Perform any other related duties required to support the effective operation of the company.
The Profile We Are Looking For
- College or university diploma in accounting, administration, finance, or a related field;
- 7 to 10 years of experience in a similar accounting role;
- Demonstrated experience managing the full accounting cycle;
- Experience working with partners, customers, or suppliers located in the United States or Europe is an asset;
- Good knowledge of payroll processing and applicable government requirements;
- Proficiency with MAXIMUM accounting software or another accounting software platform;
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft 365;
- Excellent command of both French and English, spoken and written, in order to communicate with the company’s international partners;
- Experience in the manufacturing sector.
